Created in 1962 by the founder Jean Bousquet, the French giant Cacharel, which stocks ready-to-wear clothing, perfume and accessories, is one of the most fashionable and trendy names to be featured on catwalks and in fashion houses for both men and women all over the world. The name comes from the local colloquial term for Anas querquedula, which is known to be a small duck native to the Camargue region of France. Cacharel gained notoriety after one of its modern pink shirts appeared on the cover of Elle in 1963, and the company’s reputation expanded throughout the 1970s and beyond.
Bousquet was born to a sewing machine salesman and spent all of his early years immersed in clothes making, to the point where he could not think of anything else to do so he trained to be a tailor at a young age. This led to him spending two years as a designer, mainly in women’s fashion, before settling in Paris and eventually setting up his own fashion house in Le Marais where the success of his first collection led him to form the well known brand Cacharel.
After their success in Elle and the launch of the seersucker blouse for which they rose to fame, Cacharel followed in the footsteps of many of their peers by entering into the world of fragrance and perfumes. Wanting the scents to be predominantly for women, Bousquet commissioned L’Oreal to create a perfume for his brand and the successful and iconic Anais Anais was launched in 1978. It was, and still is, considered to be a ultra-feminine scent, rich in smells of flower bouquets.
After realising his potential in the perfume world, Bousquet went on to create many further scents for women including Loulou (1987), Eden (1994), Loulou Blue (1995), Eau d’Eden (1996), Noa (1998), Gloria (2002), Amor Amor (2003), Amor Amor Eau Fraiche (2005 & 2006), Noa Perle (2006) and Promesse (2005) among many others.
Although successful in the fragrance and perfume market, Cacharel have also firmly established their place amongst women’s fashion too with stars such as Ashley Benson, Mila Kunis, Cara Delevingne and Meryl Streep wearing items from this giant women’s fashion brand. Models such as Gisele Buendchen, Vanessa Hudgen and Shu Uemura have all modelled for Cacharel, following Kate Moss who modelled for Anais Anais and Laetitia Casta for Promesse, encouraging the fans to follow the young, feminine fashions for which they are known best.
