Who is Issey Miyake?

Issey Miyake is a Japanese designer who has created clothes, fragrances and even manufacturing methods. In the ‘60s a young Miyake went to Europe and worked for Guy Laroche and Givenchy, where he created luxurious pieces for the rich. When he returned to Japan, he set up his own brand, which would focus on technical innovation and wearable fashion for everyone.
Issey Miyake fashion tends to be very focused on the process behind the design and the use of new and untested materials. His famous Pleats Please line uses the old technique of pleating to create new types of clothing. This collection was complimented with a Miyake perfume for women, Pleats Please (1993), which was directly inspired by pleating and stacks of fruit, flowers and woods.
The first Issey Miyake perfume was L’eua d’Issey for Women (1992). This feminine and ozonic flower scent was one of the most popular fragrances of the ‘90s and stands out with its tall, cone-formed bottle.
