Born into the shoe world right from the very start of his life, Jimmy Choo has earned a reputation as one of the most successful women’s shoe designers, fashion icons and fragrance gurus of the tail end of the 20th century. Choo was born in Penang, Malaysia and studied at Cordwainers’ Technical College. At the tender age of 11 he created his first women’s shoe and soon became a pioneer in the art of celebrity dressing. Jimmy Choo’s surname is in fact Jimmy Chow, however due to a mistake by the registrar on his birth certificate this new surname has stuck and is now a globally recognised name that makes shoe savvy women swoon.

Choo was a relative latecomer into the fashion and fragrance world, only establishing his brand in the early 1990s basing it in the east end of London. The brand has pieces for both men and women, with the only request from the successful designer is that the customer oozes a confident sense of style and feels empowered when wearing the statement pieces. Founded in 1996, the Jimmy Choo label was set up by 3 founders – Mr Choo himself, his niece Sandra Choi and Tamara Mellon OBE.

The sexy cut, fashionable design for women and exceptional Italian craftsmanship struck a chord with a sophisticated clientele, and the first collection enjoyed immediate success. With a goal of creating a global luxury business, Jimmy Choo attracted outside investment and the company embarked on a significant expansion across product categories, channels and geographies. Jimmy Choo was among the first to bring women’s shoes and handbags to Hollywood where the red carpet proved to be the ideal runway for the brand. Today, Jimmy Choo can be seen on style icons from celebrities to royalty, musicians to heads of state.

Retail development has been integral to the company’s strategy and in 2011 Jimmy Choo launched his first women’s fragrance, simply entitled Jimmy Choo. This is a classically sweet, simple scent that is feminine yet empowering with a lot of sensuality to it. The beautiful bottle was designed by Mellon herself after she became inspired by Murano glass and she devoted a lot of time and attention to the bottle so that it would be an eyecatching piece on any night stand. Other popular Jimmy Choo fragrances for women include the sumptuously balsamic notes of Jimmy Choo Parfum (2012), the exotically fruity accents of Jimmy Choo Exotic (2013), the enchanting white floral accents of Flash (2013) and the sweet citrus accords of Stars (2014).
