Lacoste is a French Fashion House, founded by René Lacoste and Andre Gillier in 1933. Today, the company is directed by Michel Lacoste, the younger brother of Bernard, who was running the company from 1963 but who died in 2006. The fashion house sells both formal and sporty clothes, shoes, watches and fragrances. The green crocodile logo derives from René’s nickname “The Crocodile”, describing his competitive personality as a tennis player. His passion for tennis was so strong that he developed Lacoste’s clothing collections around it. The white Lacoste tennis shirt became a symbol of both sport and fashion in the 80s. Tennis players, such as Andy Roddick, became endorsers of the brand and pushed Lacoste to another level. During the 80s, Lacoste became famous in the US and was considered the ultimate preppy brand, also mentioned in Lisa Birnbach’s Official Preppy Handbook of 1980.

Lacoste’s popularity starting growing significantly after the year 2000 when Christophe Lemaire was chosen as creative director. His urge to re-think the brand with a more modern touch brought incredible sales and visibility. In 2005 the company managed to sell 50 million Lacoste products in over 110 countries. The celebrity endorsements started increasing as olympic champions and other representatives of the sport community starting adopting the brand.

Lacoste’s fragrances are produced in collaboration with Procter & Gamble. The fragrances for women are both elegant and sporty. Lacoste Woman (1999) revolutionised the tuberose scent, transforming it with spices and Moroccan incense. Touch of Pink (2004) is another notable Lacoste perfume for women. The fragrance is a jasmine and violet blend with orange, coriander and vanilla notes. There have been several extensions of this particular product, such as Touch of Sun (2006), Touch of Spring (2007) and Joy of Pink (2010). Eau de Lacoste (2013) and Eau de Lacoste Sensuelle (2013) are gorgeous fruity and sweet fragrances that highlight the elegance of a woman without overwhelming her with sweetness.
