Who is Paco Rabanne?

The Spanish fashion house, Paco Rabanne, is named after its French-Spanish creator. Growing up in Paris he studied architecture at university, but after graduating he found himself drifting into jewellery design. Being creatively gifted he found great success and created pieces for famous brands, like Dior and Givenchy. He became known for using unconventional materials like paper and metal on the runway and these designs featured in the classic ‘60s film, Barbarella.

The year after the film premiered the very first Paco Rabanne perfume was launched in cooperation with Puig. Calandre (1969) was a woody aldehydic ladies perfume in a minimalist bottle. Ever since then Paco Rabanne and Puig have put out a parade of women’s fragrances, as well as aftershaves and unisex perfume, including La Nuit (1985) and Ultraviolet (1999) and more modern success, including Black XS (2007).
