When he first opened his leather goods store in 1913, Mario Prada was not expecting it to be one day be a world-famous fashion house, and in the hands of a woman no less! Despite his belief that women be involved in business, his daughter Luisa would come to take over the company after his passing. In the late 70s Miuccia Prada, Luisas daughter, was holding the reins of the business and managed to steer it into a new golden age based on centering the company on her own creative designs.

By drawing inspiration from the military world, Miuccia designed a line of backpacks and bags in parachute nylon material trimmed with leather. These soon became best-sellers and defined her rise within the high-fashion world. These bags are still her signature today and are still best-sellers. Three years later, in 1988, she released her first womenswear collection, under advice of husband and businessman Patrizio Bertelli.
Prada’s collections have always drifted away from the common beauty standards and to be chic in an unexpected way. According to Miuccia this is completely intentional and close to the heart of the company.

Prada’s first fragrances were artisan made and focused on one scent only, such as Iris, or Orange Flower, or Violet. It was not until the late 2000s when Prada added other fragrances to this collection, starting with Prada Eau de Parfum (2004). They had great success with the releases of Infusion D’Iris (2007) and Infusion D’Iris Absolue (2012). Another popular fragrance is Prada Candy (2011) , a sweet blend of musks, vanilla and caramel.
